Automatic Calibration for CE-QUAL-W2 Model Using Improved Global-Best Harmony Search Algorithm

CE-QUAL-W2 is widely used for simulating hydrodynamics and water quality of the aquatic environments. Currently, model calibration mainly based on trial error, therefore it subject to knowledge experience users. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm has been tested automatic CE-QUAL-W2, but an issue prematurely converging a local optimum. In this study, we proposed Improved Global-Best Harmony Search (IGHS) automatically calibrate overcome these shortcomings. We performance IGHS method by temperature Devils Lake, North Dakota, which agreed with field observations R2 = 0.98, RMSE 1.23 0.77 °C (2008–2011) validation (2011–2016) periods, respectively. same comparison, PSO-calibrated model, produced 0.98 Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) 1.33 0.91 °C. Between two methods, calibrated could lower in simulation approximately 7–15%.
